I have over fifteen years' experience as a Recruitment and Employment Consultant establishing and running a successful Employment Agency. I was an employer in my own right with a multi million pound wages bill for temporary, contract and permanent staff.

The categories of staff supplied by my agency covered almost all occupations and provided many hundreds of work categories to every large employer in Norwich and many of the smaller employers.

I have also assisted Norfolk Local Education Authority in designing recruitment programmes for Headteachers. Norfolk and Waveney Business Link commissioned me to prepare a seminar for small and medium sized enterprises on employment issues for the inexperienced employer. I am a mentor for the Norfolk Prince's Trust and have a Certificate of Enhanced Disclosure.

My first career was as a Naval Officer. I joined BRNC Dartmouth in 1967, Executive branch, subsequently specialising in Gunnery. I served mainly at sea until 1974 when I transferred to The Sea Arm of the Qatar Armed Forces, appointed as Gunnery Officer and Project Officer for the emerging navy. Training and development of Arab Officers and sailors of many different nationalities was an important part of my job.

I had command of the first modern gunboat when it arrived in Qatar. My rank was Lieutenant Commander. I was involved in numerous cross-service activities; for example the Sea Arm provided the aerial target division for anti-aircraft weapons training across the 3 services.

John’s specialisms:
Having owned an Adecco franchise he has in-depth knowledge of the recruitment industry and well developed interviewing skills. He has a particular interest in small business and self-employment, applying this knowledge as a business mentor for the Prince's Trust. His MBA focused on SMEs and issues for the self employed.
